NRA Life Membership

I'm currently in the process of upgrading my annual NRA membership to a life membership. For existing annual NRA members the NRA is currently running a couple of discounted offers for an upgrade to Life membership. The normal cost for life membership is $1,000.00 but for a limited time annual NRA members can upgrade to life for $500.00 through nravalidate.org.

Additionally if you know an existing NRA Life member who likes you very much, he or she can buy you a gift life membership for $300.00. I understand that the $300 gift membership offer will end on Jan 20th, 2009 although originally it was slated to end Dec 31st 2008. Life members should have received the required paperwork in the mail recently, or they can also call 877-NRA-2000 to give a life membership gift over the phone.

If you're not yet an NRA member and you own one or more guns you should consider joining (or even if you don't yet own one but want to remain free to own one in the future). Otherwise you're just sitting in the wagon letting the rest of us pull your weight. You should also consider joining other national & local gun rights groups, but join the NRA as an absolute minimum. If you can't afford $25 to support your own gun rights, then you really can't even afford the ammunition for your gun.

Update 1: Save $10 to $50 by joining, renewing, or giving the gift of NRA membership!

Dustin, a couple questions. I am a yearly member now and received my info for the upgrade yesterday in the mail. I like the $500 lifetime option, but I didn't see the quarterly pay option with that. Do you know if that is available, or is it just $500 up front? Also, my father is a life member. Can he buy me a life membership even though I am a yearly member? I could pay him back and save myself $200. Thanks for any info you may have.

Hi Daniel, my understanding is that both of the discounted life options are all upfront. Yes your father can buy you a life membership even though you are already a yearly member. You'll just give him your current NRA membership # along with your full name & mailing address (I presume he already knows the 2nd & 3rd item in that list), & let him know which magazine you'd like to receive. He could then fill out the form to buy you a gift life membership upgrade, or he can call it in.

Hi Dustin, great blog. What's your source for the $300 NRA life membership? When I search the web I can't find much information, just some old info about an expired deal. I know a life member that would buy me a life membership (I'd pay them back, like Daniel); is NRA doing it currently and will they confirm if he calls them at the number you gave? Also I just renewed for next year (starting June or July); do you know if they will refund that if I become a life member?

I don't know about a refund my guess would be no but it wouldn't hurt to ask. I heard about the current $300 gift deal from a couple of sources, one is a friend of mine who is an NRA-ILA employee who let me know that the offer had been sent out to current life members in the mail, and the other is a life member who received the paperwork in the mail earlier this week. Your friend should be able to call the number & get the deal that way - let me know if he has any issues.

Thanks Dustin. I think I still haven't gotten the statement for the CC I put the renewal on, so if they refuse a refund after I get Life Membership I can always do a chargeback, although I hope I don't have to.

I am a yearly member. I just had a family member call 877-672-2000, option 3, and ask about a gift life membership. He was told by the NRA lady that my only option was the $500 offer for current yearly members. If the $300 offer is good, how can he get the required paperwork or get the telephone operator to do the membership for $300? Maybe I didn't tell him how to ask the "right" way. Please, if you know exactly what he needs to do to get this to work, I want to take advantage of the opportunity. Thanks.

I think she was probably mistaken or confused. Have him try again & get a different operator. I'd have him emphasize that he wants to give away a $300 gift life membership. He really doesn't even need to mention that you're a current yearly member - perhaps that is what confused her. There is a $500 option for you to upgrade to life, but that isn't what you want - you want him to give you the $300 gift.

Let me know if he has issues on the 2nd try, if so I can see if I can get an image file of the paperwork that he could print out & just mail that in.
