ABC Nightline anti-gun spin

ABC Nightline recently aired a segment covering Restaurant Carry with the title of "Guns and Booze." With a title like that, they were certainly off to a good start on their standard anti-gun spin. At the end of the segment, they even tried to "prove" that when you draw your gun from a concealed holster you're more likely to have less accurate aim, by having a man shoot with slow measured shots on the first target, then drawing his gun and shooting a group of shots in rapid succession at a second target, then comparing the two target groupings. Pure genius.

Kudos to Nikki Goeser for managing to get in many excellent points on our side of the issue.

Washington Times Editorial: The forgotten virtue of firearms

I just read a well stated editorial from the Washington Times on the forgotten virtue of firearms. It discusses the one-sided nature of the mainstream news as it relates to criminals using guns. If it bleeds it leads, leading to the primary focus of headline news being placed on stories of criminals attacking defenseless victims, while the vast majority of crimes stopped by law abiding gun owners don't lead the news as there was no blood involved - simply aiming a gun at the bad guy was enough to stop the attack in 98% of the cases of self defense. When self defense uses of a gun are reported and covered at all, they seldom go beyond a small story buried deep in the local news.

The Washington Times editorial also brings up the important fact that the vast majority of mass shootings have taken place in so-called gun free zones - places where criminals & sociopaths have the upper hand on victims rendered defenseless by bad policies or laws, places like Virginia Tech or the recent Fort Hood Terrorist Attack. Gun free zones are a failed progressive experiment based on the mistaken fallacy that criminals might obey a gun free zone sign. It is high time we stop treating our citizens like lab rats, it's time to end the gun free zone experiment.

CNN Blunder

CNN Attempted to report the fact that on average 55% of gun deaths every year are actually suicides of people who decided to use a gun to end their own life rather than any of the other methods available to them.

Mitchell Blatt has the video of their blunder when they incorrectly stated that 55% of gun owners commit suicide with their gun. If it had been true that would have been very bad news indeed as that would have meant roughly 49.5 Million suicides by gun owners alone if you go off the estimate of 90 Million gun owners in the US (the number of gun owners could actually be much higher than 90 Million because the BATFE estimates that roughly half of US households have at least one gun, which would mean there are roughly 147 Million people who live in households that have guns). Ten minutes later they corrected their mistake, probably after their incoming phone lines were swamped with incoming calls from irate gun owners.

Alan Korwin Responds to Media Bias

Alan Korwin responded to evidence of media bias via this letter to the editor in response to this Arizona Republic article from Tuesday.

. . . With news coverage that perpetually casts self-defense, personal-safety and civil-rights-protection bills as students-with-guns laws, it should come as little surprise that people don't trust or rely on the media the way they used to. That coverage also perpetuates hoplophobia, a debilitating, irrational fear of weapons.

Will you change? Everyone hopes so, but doubts run high.

Chicago Daily Herrald displays anti-gun bias.

Really? A Chicago mainstream media outlet showing anti-gun bias? Unbelievable.

The April 15 front page large print headline read, "Crowd split on gun laws." That in reference to a forum in Naperville the day before sponsored by California-based Legal Community Against Violence (LCAV). Moderating the forum was gun control movement veteran Steve Young.

Of the 175 or so attendees, all but a handful were gun-rights supporters. And I mean a handful … maybe five. You call that "Crowd split on gun laws"? That's a split? I'm glad you're not my partner. I thought split meant roughly 50/50.

. . . Probably the biggest blow to LCAV's credibility came when Steve Young showed polling data that supposedly showed 80 percent of Illinois gun owners support LCAV gun control policies. After the laughter subsided, Richard Pearson of the Illinois State Rifle Association asked members in the audience who supported LCAV gun control policies to please stand. Not one person got up.

Or perhaps they just are not very good at math?

Don't honk at an illegal alien

The press has been reporting on 3 so-called "road rage" shooting incidents that all took place within a 1 block radius of the McDowell & 43rd Ave intersection in Phoenix over this past weekend. What they are not reporting is the fact that they have not yet captured any of the shooters, 3 of which are listed as being a "Hispanic male." Also not reported was the fact that the events happened in a high crime area known to have gang activity, and the shooters were likely criminals, even before they committed these illegal shootings.

Since we don't yet know who they are, I can't say for certain that any of the shooters are illegal aliens, but I can say that it is nearly certain that they are criminals & that they are involved in gangs (based on the fact that they opened fire at another vehicle while they were not in fear of their lives - only criminals do that). Long story short, don't honk your horn or engage in "road rage" activity with illegal aliens, especially if they happen to be gang members. Of course it's a good idea to avoid road rage in any case, but this is just an extra reason for caution. Here are the details from the 3 incidents:

1st) This shooting happened on Saturday night (4/19). Police say the shooters car is white and was driven by a black female. Another black female was in the passengers seat. The shooter, a hispanic male, was in the backseat.

2nd) This shooting happened early Sunday morning (4/20). The suspect's vehicle is a late 90's black GMC Yukon or Chevy Tahoe. Police say both suspects are Hispanic men.

3rd) This shooting happened on Sunday afternoon (4/20). Police say the suspect's vehicle is a gold Chevy Silverado with vanity or specialty plates. (No description of Suspect given)

Update 1: Just for clarification, please don't take this post to mean that I think all Hispanics are illegal aliens. I am 100% in favor of legal immigration & lawful Hispanic citizens who are wonderful people. I'm only against illegal immigration by any race, and I'm against criminals & gang members of any race. I only posted this because I felt the media did all lawful gun owners a disservice by playing these three so-called "road rage" shootings as being between law abiding citizens who lost control of their tempers and started shooting at each other, when in fact the shooters were likely criminals long before they shot at their intended victims this past weekend.

Goodbye Rebecca Aguilar: Good Riddance.

All I can say is don't let the door hit you on the way out. Actually it's fine with me if it hits you on the way out, I really don't care either way, so long as I never have to see your face doing an interview on Fox again. Thank you Fox, good decision to fire her - what she did was inexcusable. It turns out that Fox had only been keeping her around on paid suspension since the incident so that they could exercise the option in her contract to fire her at the half way point of her 2 year contract on exactly March 6th 2008.

"I just think it's really sad that I gave this company 14 years and I did about 6,000 interviews," Aguilar said. "And now I'm out of a job because of one interview? It's like in one swoop it ruined my reputation. It ruined my name."
No, YOU ruined your name Rebecca. Don't try to blame your ruin on anybody other than yourself or you will fail to learn any lesson from your mistake.

Five Questions about Shootings at Universities by Dennis Prager

Five Questions about lamestream media coverage of Shootings at Universities by Dennis Prager. An excellent article that asks the following 5 questions:

  • Question 1: Why are murderers always counted in the victims tally? The day after the mass murder of students at Northern Illinois University (NIU), the headline in the closest major newspaper, the Chicago Tribune, was: "6 Dead in NIU Shooting."
  • Question 2: Which of these three options is more likely to prevent further murderous rampages: a) making universities closed campuses and increasing the police presence on campus (as the president of NIU has promised to do); b) making guns much harder to obtain; or c) enabling specially trained students and faculty to carry concealed weapons on campus?
  • Question 3: Why are "shooter" and "gunman" used instead of "killer" or "murderer"?
  • Question 4: Why is "murder" never used to describe homicides involved in these university massacres? And why is "murderer" never used to describe these murderers? Why has "kill" become the only word allowed for deliberate homicide?
  • Question 5: Would the press note killers' religiosity if they were all Christian?

Miami Herald spreading lies & misinformation

The Lamestream Media is at it again - The Miami Herald is spreading lies & misinformation.

The article is so full of misinformation that I don't know where to begin. What I really want to know is how people "made a few bucks" by spending around $600 to $1,000.00 plus sales tax to buy legal semi-automatic AK-47's at gun stores & then turning around to sell them on the black market for $100 or $200? Sounds like such criminals would be out of business very quickly.

''Someone will go in and buy a number of these weapons, legally, and then they'll turn around and sell them out of the trunk of their car, illegally,'' said Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. ``It's a fast and easy way to make a few bucks.'' . . .
According to Miami's police chief . . .

''They're everywhere,'' Timoney said. ``At $100 or $200, everyone can afford one of these killing machines.''

Fox 10 Phoenix News gets it wrong . . .

What a LOAD of baloney (My apologies in advance to all the fine makers of the meat product called Baloney for associating their good name with such poor reporting). I could hardly believe my own ears when I watched the news last night & heard the Monday night Dec 3rd 9pm Fox 10 Phoenix newscast make the following statement while reporting a story on a group of semi-automatic rifles confiscated in 5 ATF seizures that occurred in Arizona during the past week:

"Many of these guns including the dozens of semi automatic rifles are the same guns used by soldiers serving in Iraq"

I think it is safe to say that most everyone other than perhaps Fox 10 Phoenix knows that Soldiers use fully automatic machine guns, NOT semi-automatic rifles. Shame on Fox 10 Phoenix for stating such a misleading lie. I've contacted Fox 10 Phoenix myself & have called on them to correct their story in a future newscast in addition to issuing an apology to the citizens of Arizona for the confusion they have caused. With as much confusion as there already is in the general public about what a fully automatic assault rifle is as used by the military (such as an M16) & what a semi-automatic rifle is such as an AR15, we don't need the local news media to be adding to the confusion by broadcasting lies. I would expect such lies from the likes of CBS or CNN, but normally I expect just a little bit more honesty from Fox.

I do have to commend Fox for getting one thing in particular correct - they did correctly call the seized guns semi-automatic rifles which is one thing that the majority of the mainstream news media usually messes up.

Update: My Fox Phoenix responded to my e-mail & they say that although they may not have time to actually respond to my e-mail, they will eventually read it with care! Probably just before they hit the delete key. :)

CNN lies & fakes the story once again!

I really wish I could just believe that CNN is full of incompetent reporters & editors. Unfortunately it is equally as likely that they are just a bunch of liars who wish to mislead their audience in order to support their own liberal dream of re-enacting the Clinton gun ban (commonly called the "assault weapon" ban by the gun grabbers) that already expired without renewal.

This is a repeat of the same lies & propaganda spewed by CBS news last month as reported in blog entries such as Days of our Trailers & Say Uncle, with new lies added in by CNN for extra putrid flavoring. Just one of the misleading statements CNN included:

"We're having more than one officer shot and killed a week. It's just outrageous that officers are being targeted," he said. "It's something I think all Americans should be outraged about."

He lays the blame squarely on lawmakers who allowed the assault weapons ban to expire in 2004.

What in the world does the rate of killings of Police Officers have to do with the expired Clinton gun ban? They make that statement as if they're saying all or even most of those officers were killed with weapons named on the banned list, which is an outright lie. Officers are killed by all kinds of criminals who use all kinds of weapons - handguns, shotguns, knives, cars, baseball bats, explosives, & normal semi-automatic rifles. Full auto assault rifles are not very common on the streets, and even if they were, it would not be caused by the lack of the so-called assault weapon ban which does NOT include a SINGLE ASSAULT RIFLE. Not one. Surprised? It's all part of the deception - the folks in favor of the Clinton gun ban want people to be confused so that they will support it.

In the CNN news story they keep going back & forth between the phrase "assault rifle" & "assault weapon" as if they both mean the same thing. They did at one time, because assault weapons officially only included assault rifles and weapons used by military forces for armed assaults on enemy forces, until the Brady folks & Clinton decided to cause mass confusion by defining normal semi automatic rifles that have 2 or more "evil looking" features such an "evil" pistol grip as being an "assault weapon" even if it was not an assault rifle. One example of the normal semi automatic guns that had been banned by the Clinton gun ban is the popular "Sport Utility" gun - the AR-15. Jack of all trades - works great for target practice, home defense, target matches, etc. Below is yet another example of the lies from CNN - first they said the Police Department is being armed with Assault rifle's:

Miami's police department also is in the process of arming every officer with an assault rifle.
Then later they said:

Palm Beach Sheriff's deputy Carl Martin bought his own AR-15 and passed the required training.
So apparently they want us to think an AR-15 is an assault rifle which is a big fat lie.

There are far more powerful rifles out there than the semi-automatic rifles that had been banned by the Clinton Gun ban. A .30-06 rifle comes to mind as a popular hunting rifle that is far more powerful than either the popular semi-auto AR-15 or the popular semi-auto version of the AK-47. Yet the article continued to blubber on & on about "high powered assault weapons"
"It's not nice we have to arm ourselves like the soldiers in Iraq," said Sgt. Laurie Pfeil, who supervises a sheriff's road patrol in Palm Beach County and is now certified to carry a semiautomatic AR-15 rifle on the job. It's the civilian version of the military's M-16 used by U.S. soldiers in Iraq.
Believe me when I tell you that our soldiers are not using AR-15 semi-automatic rifles - they NEVER have. They use "select fire" full automatic or burst mode assault rifles commonly known as the M-16. It has little to do with an AR-15 other than that they have a few common features such as a pistol grip & an accessory rail where you can attach utilities like a flashlight which works nicely for home defense purposes against criminal invaders.

So enough with the lies & propaganda. Let's call an AR-15 what it really is - a Sport Utility Rifle or SUR for short. It is not an "assault rifle" even if the media wishes us to believe that it is. The Clinton gun ban was not renewed because it was dumb legislation that did not do anything other than ban perfectly normal semi-automatic rifles in a blatant attempt to keep them out of the hands of law abiding citizens. The truth came out, and the legislation died a well deserved long overdue death, which is exactly where it should stay. Let the dead horse lie in its grave - a zombie horse is not a pretty picture, lets not attempt to raise this dead horse from the grave as the Brady folks are demanding.

CNN & CBS news should start out every story with the following advisory: "Warning - you are about to be assaulted by left wing liberal bias, propaganda, and outright lies carefully crafted to confuse & mislead. Viewer discretion is advised. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile."
