Ammunition

I'm still having difficulties finding many types of ammo at my favorite local retailers. For example, I'm not finding any self defense .380 ammunition at any of them. I'm only finding it online at this point, and some brands are often on backorder. What are your favorite online retailers for ammunition? Let me know in the comments section.

Haven't tried their .380, but what I have bought has been very good quality

  2. I don't know about online retailers, but I've been having as much trouble finding ammo as it seems anyone else is lately.... til a bit back when I went to Prescott to visit some family.

I stopped in a gun shop just for kicks and was surprised to see boatloads of ammo. I don't know about .380 cause I don't own any in that caliber, but I came home with 1k rounds of 9mm, which is something I hadn't seen on any shelf in the phoenix area in months. And I know they had a lot of .40 S&W and .45 ACP as well. A fair price, too. The shop owner told me pretty much every gun shop around there had stock like that and he hadn't experienced any kind of shortage.

This was a few months ago, so things may have changed. But if you're looking to buy in bulk, it might be worth a few phone calls and maybe a special trip. Prescott really isn't that far.

    That IS weird...

Here in the Midwest, about all I DID find in stores used to be .22 and .380!
(well, that and .38 or some .357).

    I was looking for .45ACP.

    9mm stock were fine.

Can't imagine the lack of .380 though, unless it's a regional thing.

Finally, (here) we're seeing some ammo for .45ACP, and at decent prices for the UMC 50 round bricks.

    Hope you get your ammo.

  6. Anon: Was that ball ammo for target practice or self defense ammo? I was at Cabela's a couple of times about a month ago, and both times they had a lot of .380 ball ammo, but none of the .380 self defense ammo.

  7. Anon: Was that ball ammo (FMJ) for target practice or self defense ammo? I was at Cabela's a couple of times about a month ago, and both times they had a lot of .380 ball ammo, but none of the .380 self defense ammo.

  8. I bought some Hornady 380 XTP from Midway recently. Locally in North Texas ball is plentiful, but anything else either very expensive ($1.00) per round or not available. 9mm can be had for 30-35% less per round. Go figure.

  9. Both Bass Pro and Cabela's had both FMJ and PI although different brands. Cabela's had a lot.

  10. Anon: At the risk of asking a dumb question, can you elaborate on what PI ammo is? I ran a search on google but didn't find anything.

  12. Anon: ok, PD for Personal Defense. I got it now. I was worried for a moment that there was a new term I had not yet heard of. :)

  13. Make sure you check with your online retailer before even purchasing one. Thanks for sharing. If you get the chance, check out and buy military surplus over at my site.
