There's just one problem with the 90 percent "statistic" and it's a big one:It's just not true.In fact, it's not even close. The fact is, only 17 percent of guns found at Mexican crime scenes have been traced to the U.S.
So exactly where did the misleading 90% stat come from?
What's true, an ATF spokeswoman told FOXNews.com, in a clarification of the statistic used by her own agency's assistant director, "is that over 90 percent of the traced firearms originate from the U.S."But a large percentage of the guns recovered in Mexico do not get sent back to the U.S. for tracing, because it is obvious from their markings that they do not come from the U.S."Not every weapon seized in Mexico has a serial number on it that would make it traceable, and the U.S. effort to trace weapons really only extends to weapons that have been in the U.S. market," Matt Allen, special agent of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), told FOX News.
Yet another example of anti-gun Politicians distorting the truth in an attempt to gain support for their desired gun bans.
Update 1: Obama is also quoting the lie.
Dustin:
ReplyDeleteOn my blog post of 29 march I had a brief called:
"¿Dónde Están Mis Armas?
And I mentioned this...before all the rest of the MSM caught up.
But that's 'cause I knew about this crap for a while, and recent events prompted me to spit out some TRUTH about it.
Amazing how the "facts" (presented by the current admins) become skewed, and all in the name of embracing "diversity".
And to think the ATF now comes under the wing of the Sec. of the Treasury, Timmy Geithner.
Amazing...simple amazing.
But it's not like I used to work for the Treasury Dept...oh, wait...I DID (once).
Good post.
Good post Dustin. I just saw this article on FoxNews earlier today and just caught the coverage on FNC a few minutes ago.
ReplyDeleteI hope this correction spreads like wildfire.
Bob: Great post! Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteAllen: So do I. A lie left unchallenged eventually becomes "the truth" so it is important that we stomp out the lies whenever we can. :)
Lets see Hiliary ( The Sarajevo Sprinter ) dodge these bullets!!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to ask another thing. According to the article, 5,114 firearms out of 29,000 were traced to the U.S. How many of the 5,114 were actually the result of smuggling vs. legitimate sales?
ReplyDeleteEric:
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say (as a former Treasury Dept "employee"), that MOST of those weapons probably WERE "purchased", if by that you mean SOLD TO MEXICO to use in THEIR police departments and military by the US gov't.
Now...if they "got lost" along the way, south of that border, then yes, those guns DID (officially) "come from America".
Just not in the manner the MSM would like to see.
It's not as sensational.
Neither is admitting to ALL those gun manufacturers in South America.
But it IS the TRUTH.
B.G.
PS: "The Sarajevo Sprinter"...LMAO!
Bob G. Feel free to use "Sarajevo Sprinter" any time. Just mention that it came from a Canuck.
ReplyDeleteEric:
ReplyDeleteYasureyoubetcha...and thanks, eh?
Dustin, careful what you write out there in the desert. I hear the cops like to confiscate computers and modems in Phoenix that belong to bloggers critical of their work. Anyway, great post. However, I do not think Secretary Clinton and her Homeland Security counterpart care what the actual numbers are.
ReplyDeleteYes I doubt they do either. The truth wouldn't help them push their agenda.
