GA: CCW Permit Applications up 79% in 2008

CCW applications in Georgia went up 79% in 2008 over 2007:

Across Georgia, there’s been a dramatic surge in applications . . . and no sign that the trend is slowing. Statewide, 121,219 applications were submitted in 2008, up 79.2 percent from 67,640 in 2007, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
In Arizona as of Jan 2 2009 there were 117,684 active CCW permits. Back in Nov 2006 there were about 84,000 active CCW permits. That represents roughly a 40% increase in active Arizona CCW permits as of now when compared to a couple of years ago.

Similar reports have been coming in from many other parts of the Country, including Colorado, Omaha, North Carolina, Michigan, and Washington to name just a few. I'm glad to see that more Americans are deciding to prepare for the defense of themselves & their families while in locations away from their own home. An armed society is a polite society - have you ever heard of an armed robbery at a gun show? Neither have I. A criminal would have to be 100% insane to try something like armed robbery while surrounded by so many armed Americans.

You should see Texas. With all the violence spilling in from the Mexican border, El paso county permits have doubled!
(If I remember correctly) My wife and i went to visit her family. While we where there I stopped at some gun shops and you wouldn't believe it, 95% sold out. One shop had a grant total of 5 pistols left and one shotgun. The guy behind the counter said it was a combination of the Obama scare and violence from Mexico that drove gun sells so high.

Mike Jones with the Police Chiefs Assoc. isn't happy about. Seems we citizens aren't trained enough for him. Then again, I’d like for him to show me what provision of the 2nd Amendment provides for that. Also to stop using the rational that, "one must be trained to drive a car, so...”. Because driving a car is a privileged, owing and carrying a gun is a right. Perhaps he should get some training on Constitutional law.

I should get mine. With everything I have got and taken care of I have yet to get my CWP. First I need to get better with a handgun though. Especially with all the schools so close to my jogging/walking route.

If my freind is to be believed the guy who did the classes at Ben Avery Sunday is his cousin. So all of my friends who planned on getting theirs all went yesterday. At least three. Haven't talked to any of them so I don't know if they got it.

hebertprime: yeah guns are flying off the shelves, especially EBR's & handguns. Get them while you still can, if you can find one. :)

Conservative Scalawag: Yeah I'm so sick & tired of the head of the Police Chiefs Association as well as other so-called "Police organizations" that actually are nothing more than a talking head for the anti gun Mayors who keep their Police Chiefs on a short leash. If you talk to the majority of real life Police Officers, the men & women who put their lives on the line every day, most of them actually support the right to keep & bear arms as well as understand why it is important for all of us to be prepared to defend ourselves & our families: when seconds count the Police are Minutes away - they can't be at all places at all times. They can deter crime, but they can't prevent it.

Shawn: Both of those are a good idea in my opinion. Did their instructor happen to be Dave Kopp, President of AZCDL? He is now teaching a CCW course at Ben Avery.

No. The last names do not match.

Just since it's late and the days mood has already been set I think it needs to be said even though it will piss everyone off that sees it but HR45 went to committee either today or on Friday but I can't find anything else on it. I'll be sure not to comply and probably get murdered by the obama stormtroopers but I'm ready for that. I just need to figure a good way to hide them.
