FL: Thug Attacked Wrong Teacher

A thug attacked the home of the wrong teacher when he broke into the home of Heath Miller, a popular middle school band teacher, early yesterday morning. Thankfully, Mr. Miller was armed & prepared to defend himself & his family:

Just before 2 a.m., Tomlin slipped into Miller's duplex, possibly through a rear sliding glass door, and Miller's dogs began barking. Miller and his wife, who recently bought a home near West Palm Beach and planned to move in two weeks, huddled in their bedroom as the intruder moved toward them in the dark.

Miller got out his pistol and prepared to fire. Through the bedroom doorway, he saw the silhouette of a gunman moving toward him, said Sgt. Pete Palenzuela, sheriff's office spokesman.

A gunfight ensued. It wasn't immediately clear who fired the first shot, but after a brief exchange of gunfire, the masked intruder stumbled toward the glass door, where he collapsed and died, Palenzuela said.
Thank goodness Mr. Miller was attacked in his own home rather than while he worked in a so-called "Gun Free School Zone" where law abiding adults in most parts of our Country are routinely disarmed & rendered defenseless by bad laws & policies.

Now lets see if the school suspends the teacher for owning a gun. Just like the last time...

I wish I could dismiss the thought of him being suspended outright as ridiculous but unfortunately I wouldn't put it past some of the school administrations in our Country. They'd probably call it Unpaid Administrative leave during an "investigation."

Dustin,
Change of topic: HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act:If passed and you own ANY "qualifying firearm" (e.g. handgun or magazine-fed long arm) then 1 year after enactment you will be a criminal unless you have obtained a Federal (or qualifying State) Firearm License. Your name, address, DOB, photo and fingerprints will be in a Federal database.

Write your Congressman and both Senators regardless of how you think they might vote on this bill.

Write (e-mail) your Congressman at:

https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

Write your Senator at:

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Write often, as often as the bill comes up for any type of action (committee or otherwise).

The bill is bad, very , but don't trust reports from radio or any other media. It's important to have accurate facts when writing legislators (at least that's my view). The following selections are from the actual bill as posted: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.45.IH:

====================================================================================

`(aa) Firearm Licensing Requirement-

`(A) under title I of Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009, which license has not been invalidated or revoked under that title; or

`(B) pursuant to a State firearm licensing and record of sale system certified under section 602 of Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009, which license has not been invalidated or revoked under State law.

====================================================================================

`(bb) Unauthorized Sale or Transfer of a Qualifying Firearm- It shall be unlawful for any person to sell, deliver, or otherwise transfer a qualifying firearm to, or for, any person who is not a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector, or to receive a qualifying firearm from a person who is not a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector, unless, at the time and place of the transfer or receipt--

`(1) the transferee presents to a licensed dealer a valid firearm license issued to the transferee--

`(A) under title I of Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009; or

`(B) pursuant to a State firearm licensing and record of sale system certified under section 602 of Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 established by the State in which the transfer or receipt occurs;

`(2) the licensed dealer contacts the Attorney General or the head of the State agency that administers the certified system described in paragraph (1)(B), as applicable, and receives notice that the transferee has been issued a firearm license described in paragraph (1) and that the license remains valid; and

`(3) the licensed dealer records on a document (which, in the case of a sale, shall be the sales receipt) a tracking authorization number provided by the Attorney General or the head of the State agency, as applicable, as evidence that the licensed dealer has verified the validity of the license.'.

====================================================================================

Thanks, yes I have a post on HR 45. HR 45 is a very bad bill, and we must all ensure that it does not pass.

Good for him. Had he dialed 911 instead, things would have turned out very differently...

Very true - when seconds count, the Police are minutes away . . .
