Murderers do notice where a target-rich environment is unarmed and unable to stop them in the few moments they need to kill. You can't fight crime after-the-fact: you can chase it and maybe you can catch it, but only after it's come and gone . . .
Concealed carry anywhere anyone has a right to be must be made part of any serious-minded approach to fighting violent crime . . .
